E.S. Burioni, one of the leading distributors of online information and consortia consultant in Italy, and Content Complete Limited (CCL) the UK-based negotiations and support services company, have joined forces to handle contract negotiations for online journals on behalf of the academic community in Italy.
In late 2006, CARE, the co-ordination group for access to electronic resources established by the terms of the agreement reached by CRUI - Permanent Conference of the Rectors of Italian Universities - and Italian Consortia and other Groups operating in the market for electronic licenses, undertook a market survey to identify candidates to undertake negotiations on their behalf with a leading STM publisher. A formal tender procedure followed the initial market soundings and a contract was awarded to the combined team of E.S. Burioni and CCL.
The combination of Burioni and CCL brings together in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Italian academic landscape and considerable experience of contract negotiations in the STM online journals market.
Luca Burioni, Owner and Managing Director of E.S. Burioni Ricerche Bibliografiche said: "I am particularly pleased to work together with Content Complete and that we have been awarded the first contract within the newly established CARE national framework for electronic licensing. This development, after nearly 10 years of consortial negotiation in Italy, comes as a confirmation of the added value brought by professional skills in negotiating licenses for the academic and research community and represents a welcome challenge for both companies."
Paul Harwood, Joint Owner and Director of CCL said: "CCL is delighted to be awarded a contract to represent the academic and research community in Italy, and we look forward to working with CARE and E.S. Burioni on this national initiative"
Prof. Alberto Sdralevich, Chair of the CARE Group said: "I am very satisfied with this outcome, both as the contract has been awarded to professionals of great experience and for the transparency of the selection process. For the first time, the Italian academic and research system will be engaged in the renewal of an important agreement with the help of professional negotiators of international level".
