Question time
- Question # 1
Is it possible to compare production and distribution costs between printed books and electronic books?
Do you have a transition strategy and can you describe it? Are Ebooks profitable? And if not, when do you foresee to break even?
- Question # 2
Why access and license models for ebooks tend to be much more fluid and diversified than ejournals and databases ones? How long will this uncertainty last and how is affecting the market? Which model will become dominant at the end?
- Question # 3
Research monographs are typically used by academics and researchers, but it will be obvious to expect that ebooks could extend the audience to students and graduates and could be integrated in an "electronic student experience". But what about the language barrier? Do you have plans to overcome this barrier? Furthermore, there is quite a gap between curricula and the content of monographs? Finally, why textbooks typically are not included in ebook packages?
- Question # 4
How publishers plan to address the issue of archiving, permanent access and medium persistency? How does copyright works for electronic books? Typically copyright is assigned by the author to the publishers as long as print run lasts: which will be the situation in an electronic environment?
How about authors self-archiving their ebook materials in institutional repositories?
