Performing a Search  
  1. Log on to the DIALOG@Site server.
  2. Click the name of the database you want to search.
  3. Click Database.
  4. Enter your search term(s) into one of the text search fields and click Search (or click the arrow next to a field to browse the index to select a term.)

Modifying a Search  
  1. Highlight the existing search you want to modify. 
  2. Enter your search term(s) into one of the search fields and click Search (or click the index button next to a field to browse the index to select a term.) 
  3. Click one of the modify search options shown below. For example, click Narrow to retrieve only records that contain the search terms in your first set AND your new term(s). 
 
To do this: Click this:
Search for term 1 AND term 2 Narrow
Search for term 1 OR term 2 Widen
Search for term 1 and NOT term 2 Exclude

Combining Sets  
  1. Create two or more sets of records.
  2. Select the searches you want to combine in the Search History box.
  3. Click one of the combine set options shown below. For example, click Intersect to create a new set that contains the search terms in Set 1 AND Set 2.
 
To do this: Click this:
Combine Set 1 AND Set 2 Intersect
Combine Set 1 OR Set 2 Union

Browsing Indexes  
To do this: Click this:
Browse the index where a term resides Index Button 
View the previous terms in the index Left Arrows
View the next terms in the index Right Arrows
Jump to a specific term in the index Jump To

Using Search Strategies  
To do this: Click this:
Save the current search strategy Save 
Execute a previously saved search Restore
Delete a previously saved search Restore/Delete

Displaying Records  
To do this: Click this:
Display the records in the retrieved set Display 
Display the titles only for the retrieved set Title List
Create your own display format Format
Sort by a specific field Sort 
Display the next record in the set Right Arrows
Display the previous record in the set Left Arrows

Printing and Saving Records  
  1. Create a set of records.
  2. Click Title List.
  3. Click the records you want to print to highlight them.
  4. Click Display (scroll if necessary to view multiple records).
  5. Click File/Print from your browser’s menu to print the records.
  6. Click File/Save from your browser’s menu to save the records. You must save the records with a .htm extension to view them with your browser or a .txt extension to view them in a word processor.

  • Click the question mark icon to read information about the specific database field.
